More than a million and a half people live in the Euphrates Shield and Olive Branch areas. Poverty, disease and unemployment are widely spread among them, especially since most of them are displaced.

The region suffers from a lack of free, quality medical services, and the situation worsened after the devastating earthquake in early February 2023.

In response to the urgent need, Wifak Humanitarian Association is establishing the following medical departments in Al-Shifa Hospital in Afrin:
- CT Scan Department
- Laser Lithotripsy Department, using a NOVAmedtek device, the first of its kind in the region.

The departments will go into service by August 2023, and will be completely free of charge
